What WardTalk is
Practice for the OET Speaking sub-test. You read a role card, talk to a simulated patient, and get feedback against the nine publicly published OET criteria.
What WardTalk is not
It is not OET, and it is not affiliated with OET, CBLA or Cambridge Boxhill Language Assessment. We are not endorsed by them and we do not speak for them.
The band is an estimate. It is computed by us from criterion scores produced by a language model, using a formula of our own. It is not an official score, it does not predict your result, and it has no standing anywhere. Use it to find what to work on, not to decide whether you are ready.
It is not medical advice. The patient is fictional and so is everything they say about their health. Nothing in this app should be applied to a real patient or to yourself.
Your account
The app creates an anonymous account on first launch. You can sign in with Apple later so nothing is lost when you change phone.
You are responsible for what you say into it. Do not record other people without their consent, and do not put real patient information into a role-play — it is not needed and it is not yours to share.
Subscriptions
One full session is free. After that, practice needs a subscription.
Subscriptions are sold by Apple through the App Store. Prices are shown in your own currency before you buy. An auto-renewing subscription renews at the end of each period unless you cancel it at least 24 hours before, and you cancel it in your Apple account settings — not here, and deleting your WardTalk account does not do it.
Refunds are Apple’s to give. We cannot issue one.
There is a daily limit on how many sessions a subscription covers. It is there so that the cost of running this stays predictable, and it is generous enough that ordinary practice never meets it.
What we ask of you
Do not try to break, overload or work around the app, and do not use it to generate anything unlawful. We can suspend an account that does, and we would rather write to you first.
Availability
We will keep this running and we will not promise it never breaks. There is no uptime guarantee. If the scoring fails on a session, that session is not counted against your allowance — the app handles that itself.
Liability
WardTalk is provided as it is. To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for anything arising from using it, including an exam result. Nothing here limits liability that cannot be limited by law.
Changes
We may change these terms. If a change matters to you we will say so in the app before it takes effect, and continuing to use WardTalk afterwards means you accept it.
Governing law
[FILL IN BEFORE PUBLISHING] — the governing law and the competent courts. This is the clause most likely to be wrong for where you actually are, and it should be written by someone qualified in that jurisdiction.
